Back in September, Stephanie and I bought two Macbooks and have been experiencing somewhat of a learning curve. While the Mac OS is easy to navigate and use, I have to say, it feels like starting all over again. Being a Microsoft specialist, moving to a Mac is definitely an education in EASY. Software installation is easy (drag & drop), the OS configuration is blatantly plain, and the system is overall understandable.
However, being a Microsoft guy, and Stephanie being dependent upon MS Word for her work documentation, we had to do something. The version of Office that came with the Mac is a 30 day evaluation, and tends to watermark everything you do, which isn’t really good for day to day use — mind you, perfect for evaluation, but not good at all for production work.
Therefore, we had to resort to parallels and Windows Vista to get the licensed software we owned installed. Once we got this, and then followed that immediately by de-kinking the issues, everything seems to be working well.
To do this posting (as well as all others on my blogsites) I’m using blogjet, running on Windows Vista, virtualized on a Macbook (now, how’s that for technical!)
Anyway, sitting in the hotel room, hauling the macbook is a little weight added to my backpack load, but in the evenings, it’s quite recreational, as when I sit down to my company owned laptop, no matter what I do, it feels like I’m working. Whereas when I break out the white macbook, it’s my time, even though it’s a computer. Sounds weird doesn’t it?
